From controls to intelligence: The next shift in risk management.

Wednesday 4 November, 10AM-11AM GMT

Risk functions face expanding mandates, fragmented information and business conditions that move faster than traditional review cycles. AI can accelerate existing processes, but its greater value lies in helping risk leaders see emerging threats sooner, understand their implications and get insight to the right decision-maker in time.

Building on his 2026 Gartner ERAC session, Protecht's Managing Director EMEA Gary Lynam will explore the shift from periodic control to connected risk intelligence.

He will introduce the six Risk in Motion processes, distinguish Control AI from Intelligence AI and show how continuous monitoring, connected data and clear accountability can turn risk signals into action.

A practical view of continuous risk intelligence

Continuous intelligence does not mean making every risk process operate in real time. It means recognising when a material change occurs and ensuring the organisation can respond before the next scheduled review.

Gary will explore how internal risk and control data can connect with incidents, operational indicators and external third-party signals to provide a more current view of exposure.

Guidance for your organisation’s level of maturity

The principles apply whether you lead risk for a mid-tier bank with established governance structures or a non-financial-services organisation developing its risk capability.

You will learn how to move forward without needing the scale, technology estate or resources of a global institution.

The focus is on achievable improvements that strengthen visibility, decision-making and business ownership.

You will learn how to:

  • Assess whether AI simply accelerates existing work or improves what your risk function can see
  • Use Connect, Monitor, Detect, Escalate, Report and Act to identify your signal-to-action gap
  • Move towards continuous intelligence without making every risk process real time
  • Connect internal, operational and third-party signals into a more current view of exposure
  • Prioritise practical improvements suited to your organisation’s maturity and resources.
